| An RVD is a unit of measurement which equates to a single day's visit to the Allegheny National Forest. Measurement of RVD's was taken for the area located nearby and associated with the Allegheny Reservoir, according to the report. The reservoir is also known as Kinzua Lake. The figure of $2,480,000 per million visitor's days is significant because in the year measured, 1998, the ANF counted 2.44 million of these trips by tourists. The total dollar figure related to tourism around Kinzua Lake alone, amounts to more than 5.5 million dollars in the year 1998. The 5.5 million dollar figure for tourism around Kinzua Lake compares closely with total receipts from timber sales to the counties surrounding the Allegheny National Forest: Warren, Forest, McKean, and Elk. According to the ANF headquarters in Warren, "Supervisor Kathleen Morse of the Allegheny National Forest (NF) announced today that the four counties surrounding the NF will receive $6,427,344.22 in receipts from the United States Treasury through the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania." Kinzua Lake is mostly within the borders of Warren County. Its government and school district received timber subsidies of $1,838,571.69 for the year 2005, according to forest supervisor Kathleen Morse's report . To access the Jan.11, 2006 press release please see article titled "FOUR COUNTIES TO RECEIVE $6.4 MILLION IN FOREST RECEIPTS" in the bottom half of the ANF news page. No press release was made on the contribution of tourism from the Allegheny National Forest to the local economies. This article updated Dec. 28, 2006. |
